What kind of written stuff are you guys looking for?
Columns, articles, written interviews, new & emerging artist profiles, photo essays, tour diary’s on Canadian punk rock, hip hop, & related music genres, video, audio, & podcasts.
Your mandate sounds cool, & I want to submit something, but I am not sure what to write about. Help?
One thing we recommend to people is, even though we’re a music magazine, think about issues in the world that are directly impacting you. Then, go talk to a band about it! The editing team can also send you a short list of article ideas that are related to our mandate if you’re really, really, stuck. We know you’re more creative than that, though!
I’ve sent you my proposal, now what?
The editing team will get back to you with feedback about the proposal, including suggestions & a tentative submission deadline. Due to the amount of proposals we get, responses can take up to a month. We thank all contributors for their patience.
Do you do a print issue I can submit to?
Currently, no. We printed in the past & would like to again in the future. If you like print zines as well & want to help in the restructuring process, email us for more details.
How do I meet the editing team in-person so I know I like you?
We would also like to meet you, share ideas, & answer any questions you may have! If you live in the Toronto area, you can request a meet & greet in a casual setting or at a concert. If you live outside the GTA, request a phone meeting, & we can answer your questions & ; you can share your ideas. Additionally, we love parties & host them every 4 to 6 months. We invite all of our contributors via email.
How do I submit a video, audio, or podcast interview to the site?
Email the content via an FTP server to the editing team at soundpollutionmag@gmail.com. PLEASE keep a backup copy just in-case we request it!
Do I retain copyright of the material I submit? What if I want you to remove it?
Yes, absolutely. All content on the site is used with permission of the author who sends it to us,although you are submitting it as a contributor to Sound Pollution. We will continue to post or re-post said content unless you indicate otherwise, & ; will remove your content when you request.
Is this a paid gig?
At the moment, no, as we all work day jobs. We try to compensate our contributors in other ways like: issuing out press passes to shows, reimbursement for travel (up to a certain amount & to be discussed on a case by case basis) & the occasional reference letter when needed. Email the editing team for more information.
